The Research Grants Council (RGC) has announced the results for the General Research Fund (GRF) exercises for 2020/2021. In the latest competition, the Faculty performed well with eight academic staff received the GRF.

Two Faculty members, Dr Rebecca Wang, PhD graduate of Prosthodontics, and Mr Hao Ding, PhD student of Dental Materials Science (DMS), received funding from Technology Start-up Support Scheme for HKU (TSSSU@HKU) lately.

With effect from 1 July 2020, Professor CH Chu, Clinical Professor in Cariology and Dr James Tsoi, Assistant Professor in Dental Materials Science were assigned as directors of the Global Dental Campus (GDC) which is part of Institute for Advanced Dentistry (IAD), a global centre of excellence for the management of complex and severe oral conditions.

On 31 July, Professor Thomas Flemmig, Dean, moderated a fireside chat with three outstanding alumni of the Faculty of Dentistry, and the CEO of a global dental company during a Leadership in Oral Health Forum. The event was one of the forums of HKU Summer Leadership Forum.

Invited by the Faculty of Dentistry of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI), Professor WK Leung, Clinical Professor in Periodontology, presented at an online webinar titled “Back to School - An insight into how dental schools are adjusting to the Covid-19 era” on 14 July, 5pm to 6pm (GMT). There were 10 speakers from both private and public dental institutions world-wide including those from Australia, Canada, Dubai, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, The Netherlands, New Zealand, UK and US.

On 24 July 2020, 9 JUPAS and non-JUPAS students who were interested in pursuing their studies in dentistry visited Prince Philip Dental Hospital.

The Faculty is committed to sharing oral health care information to the public, and one of the channels is to disseminate such knowledge via media.
