The Faculty has been committing to safeguard children’s oral care with free dental outreach service to preschoolers at kindergartens. The Faculty’s latest 3-year-territory-wide project “Jockey Club Children Oral Health Project” (JCCOHP) aims to provide solutions to early childhood caries (ECC) which is one of the most prevalent diseases in children by providing dental check-up and silver diamine fluoride solution treatment to K1 to K3 students to control existing cavities and to prevent further decay.
On 4 July, Dr Conson Yeung, Clinical practitioner in Cariology and volunteering alumnae Dr Alfred Hui visited S.K.H. Good Shepherd Kindergarten to demonstrate proper tooth brushing techniques to children and to examine their oral condition.
Dr Alfred Hui said, “I am glad to meet the children and to provide them service. It is meaningful to disseminate dental care information and to nurture correct behaviour in maintaining oral hygiene.” He encouraged other dentists to volunteer in the project.
Apart from Faculty staff and alumni, Dean of the Faculty, Professor Thomas Flemmig also engages in serving the community. On 7 July, he joined the JCCOHP team to provide dental check-up at a local school, Kwun Tong Baptist Church Choi Ming Kindergarten. He talked to the children and the principal to learn more about the local preschooler’s oral health condition. “The Faculty is committed to initiate and organise various Knowledge Exchange activities that benefit the community at large by sharing knowledge, skills and resources in dental and oral health care,” Dean said after the event.
