New Appointments

Dean, Professor Thomas Flemmig, had announced several new appointments with effect from 1 July 2020.

Associate Dean

Being an active researcher and practicing clinician who has been instrumental in establishing the Craniofacial Regeneration Research Theme at the Faculty, Professor Zhang Chengfei, Clinical Professor in Endodontics, is taking up the new role as Associate Dean (Research and Innovation).

“I am honored and humbled to have the opportunity to serve my colleagues at the Faculty,” said Professor Zhang. In the coming days, he is expecting to work closely with HKU’s diverse stakeholders including the university community as well as the administration, to build cohesive and sustained momentum and support in research and innovation. He aspires the Faculty members to excel towards original basic research as well as meaningful and applicable translational research that could enhance oral health.

He also looks forward to working with talented and dedicated colleagues, “we are striving towards the advancements in research and have been recognised as a pioneering institute of global innovation. With the support of colleagues, together, we will take HKU dentistry research to new heights,” Professor Zhang said.

Professor Zhang’s predecessor Dr Rory Watt, Associate Professor in Oral Biosciences, stepped down from the role for he contributed to the Faculty’s research portfolio, fostered innovation, and coordinated the Faculty’s submission for the establishment of the Oral Health Research and Innovation Centre. He will continue to serve as Director of the Central Research Laboratories.
