2016 Awardee's Sharing - Yon Jun Yu, Madeline
U21 Undergraduate Research Conference 2016 (Mexico, July 2016)

"This summer, I was given the opportunity to attend the U21 Undergraduate Research Conference in Monterrey, Mexico. The topic was "A global perspective on ageing societies" and the conference was attended by undergraduate students from many overseas universities. The participants came from a huge diversity of backgrounds, including science and technology, health services and medicine, as well as politics and economics. We shared with each other the results of research from our respective fields, ranging from literature reviews to laboratory and clinical studies. I personally find the discussion session most inspiring and engaging, where questions arising from participants of other fields trigger our own thoughts on the studies we have done ourselves. This was a very enriching experience through which I learnt about ageing societies from multiple perspective, appreciating the complexity of the issue rather than becoming too narrowed down to our own specialties."
